Yasuji Maruyama was born in the town of Ichiki-Cho of the Hioki-gun district in Kagoshima Japan. He was the youngest son of Tsugio and Fumie Maruyama, he has five sisters and one brother living in Japan.

He grew up on a farm in the countryside part of Kagoshima and had a love for the outdoors. He would immerse himself in nature with a natural love for the beauty of nature with a child-like heart. In 1982, he attended Kagoshima technical High school and started working at Arimura construction CO LTD at Tokyo Japan, for seven years as a worksite manager. He oversaw condominiums and building operations on a daily basis and ensured work would be done correctly and on time. Wanting to specialize more in contracting, he came to America in 1989 to study.

During his time in America, he started to take an ESL course at Columbia University and was witnessed to by his classmate, Hyun Moon Shin and joined the church in New York on 43rd Street in 1990. After joining the church, he worked at Issei construction Inc. for 13 years.

In 1992 he married Miwako Nishitani as part of the 30,000 couples on August 25, 1992. They resided in a five-family house in Flushing, New York and throughout 1994 -1998, they had three sons Shingo, Sho, and Mitsushi and in the year 2000, they had their first daughter, Asami.

They moved to New Jersey in 2001 and started his own business, Maruyama Construction and started to work on many members’ houses as a general contractor. In 2003 they had another girl, Sae. From then on, his primary concern was to provide for his family and that they grow up with love, spending all of his spare time playing with his kids and making them laugh. Whether it be work or playing with his kids, he always worked hard regardless of the difficulties behind the scenes without the need for recognition or praise. In November of 2018, he was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer and started undergoing chemotherapy while working. It started to spread to his liver, and his condition worsened until he was unable to work. Eventually, he ascended to the spiritual world peacefully on August 23, 2019, in his sleep while being under his family’s care.
