family and friends

Mirna ascended to the spirit world on July 2, 2016, ten minutes after celebrating their 34th Blessing Anniversary in her hometown of Zamboanga City, Philippines, at the age of 65.

She was born on November 16, 1950 to Pascual Gadon and Concepcion Ledesma. She was the fourth of twelve children and was raised as a devoted Catholic. As a young lady, she was idealistic and always searching for a higher purpose in life. She promised her mother that she was going to help her take care of the family after her father died in an accident in 1969.

A few years after college, in 1976, she immigrated to the USA. In 1977, she joined the Unification Church in Berkeley, CA and became an active CARP member. She was one of the CARP pioneers in California under the leadership of Tiger Park. In 1980, she was matched by True Father with Christian Eggenberger from Switzerland. And on July 1, 1982, they were Blessed in Madison Square Garden, New York City.

In March 1982, while on the job with Il Hwa in New Mexico, she was in a car accident and became quadriplegic. By 1983, her husband Christian came to America and joined her in California. In 1984, she went back to the Philippines for the first time since she left in 1976 and after her accident. It was then that she witnessed to many spiritual children. Since then she took care of the family spiritually and financially.

Since 1990, she was a breast cancer survivor. She was actively taking care of her health and was a strong believer of the health benefits of ginseng tea. She regularly drank the tea. In 2004, she was seriously sick and faced a near-death experience after a simple surgery in California. When she recovered in 2005, she decided to go back to her hometown to be surrounded by her family and friends.

Within those eleven years she lived in her hometown, Mirna was very active with home church activities and actively organizing church events. She endlessly showed how to be a filial daughter and to live for the sake of others. Her physical condition never deterred her from facing different challenges both personally and spiritually. Her unconditional devotion and strong faith to Heavenly Parent and True Parents was unwavering. She believed that true love is the only thing that can change the world and accomplish God’s will. She manifested her faith in her daily life and lived by example. She was truly a remarkable person and we believe that she will continue her mission in the spirit world.

She was not only a devoted Unificationist, but she was also a devoted daughter, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was not only known to be the loving mother of her three adopted daughters, she was also known to her nephews and nieces as “Mama Mirna” and was considered their second mother. She touched so many lives with her love and care, but most of all her financial support to anyone who needed help. She kept the family and clan together by being there always ready to help. She will always be an inspiration.

She is survived by her husband, Christian Eggenberger; three adopted daughters—Nadia, Mariah and Kahee; brothers—Rodolfo, Tito, Ernesto and Renante Gadon; sisters—Luisa Mozar, Julie Drozdenko, Lorna Todd and Joy Gadon; and many nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by both her parents, two older sisters and one younger sister.

Memorial donations will be greatly appreciated by the family. You may contact Lorna Gadon-Todd at (702) 824-1001 or email lornagadontodd@gmail.com for more details.

We love you and we will surely miss your beautiful smiles. Aju!

Addendum:

Unfortunately, before I was able to send this obituary, our brother Ernesto Gadon also ascended to the spirit world on July 6, at the age of 59. He was born on November 7, 1957. He is survived by his daughters Blessie Gadon-Dhakal, Bambi Panta, Brenda Santos, Belinda Gadon, his son TJ, and several grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Erlinda Gueta Gadon last year.

I was fortunate to meet Mirna in Texas and we worked for Il Hwa and were roommates with a great bunch of other sisters and brothers. Mirna had the accident at that time, right after the matching. Mirna is truly an amazing, loving, able person. I think she will be a powerhouse in the spiritual world. I remember that after the Blessing, True Father told her she would be whole and free in the spiritual world. How wonderful! I hope God showers love and many Blessings on Mirna and she can dance with True Father.

I knew Mirna well before her tragic accident. We worked together in CARP. She had such a sweet and uplifting spirit and she was a strikingly beautiful woman. When I heard of her accident I was so shocked that something like that could happen to someone as sweet as Mirna. After the accident, she was confined to a wheelchair and her living situation completely changed, but her spirit and heart and way with people did not seem to change at all. She was a remarkable person whom I can never ever forget. After CARP I only saw Mirna a few times, but she was always excited and filled with laughter when we met. I am so grateful that Mirna could be blessed and have three children. I can’t wait to see her in the spiritual world where she will be living in such a beautiful place, liberated from the temporary maladies of this world. Mirna, you did a great job while on earth. I am so grateful that I came to know you.

      Dear James,
Thank you for sharing your memories about my sister Mirna. I wish I can hear more about her story during her life in the CARP movement. Unfortunately, she was not living here in USA when I became part of the unification church in Las Vegas. Hearing your testimony is uplifting.

I worked with Mirna for quite some time with Il Hwa in Houston. She was a powerhouse doing sampling of Il Hwa ginseng tea in stores and malls. People could not resist stopping and chatting with her, whether they decided to buy some product or not. In 1981, five months after my own matching, my wife’s visa expired and she came to Houston for the civil marriage ceremony – it was only the second time I had seen her and my parents also came from Seattle to meet her for the first time. After the simple ceremony with only the four of us and the Justice of the Peace, we went to dinner before my wife had to fly back to the East Coast that same day. Mirna did not have a sampling schedule that day, so I asked Mirna to come along with us and share the moment. I’m glad that we have that special memory together. After the accident, she was transferred to the hospital in Houston, and I visited her regularly. She underwent incredible suffering during that time with a metal “halo” screwed to her skull to keep her neck straight during the healing. She had incredible determination to be able to recover enough to participate in the actual Blessing Ceremony in New York less than four months after the injury.

Dear Walter, if I am not mistaken Anne Lowe is your wife, right? I met you both in 2011 when I came to that white house asking for Holy Salt. We had a picture together and that particular day, there was some kind of holy day. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your story about my sister. Yes, she was an incredible woman despite of her physical condition. She will always be my inspiration. if you guys happen to be in Las Vegas, come and see me at IPEC. I would love to see you again.

Dearest Mirna, it was my privilege to know you from the time you joined. A steadfast, knowing what was right and wrong and going for it. Not many of us could have endured the many trials and tribulations you had to. Now you can move as fast as you want and maybe even fly. You have made your mark on so many people and we will not forget you. Christian I hope you can hear Mirna’s advice even if she is not with you. God bless you and your children with His love.
