Marty M. Scroggins was born in Chicago, Illinois. Marty was raised by his grandmother, Almeta Anderson, and his step-grandfather. He spent his childhood in Atlanta, where Marty met the Unification Church in 1977.

He later moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he worked with Rev. Michael Jenkins and helped to support the center. He witnessed in his Home Church area and won the hearts of the families in his area with his gentle smile and loving heart.

Marty came to New York City on July 1, 1982, to participate in the Marriage Blessing of 2075 couples in Madison Square Garden. He was Blessed with his beloved wife, L. Bofenda, who was from the Congo RDC. He returned to Baltimore, to introduce his wife to everyone in his Home Church area. The residents received them warmly. It is one of the many fond memories of their life together.

In 1992, Marty and his young family moved to Atlanta. They wanted to do God’s mission in Martin’s hometown. His grandmother invited them to stay with her. Marty became ill several years ago. So ill that he needed to be moved to a nursing home. He patiently endured his disability for a long time. On the night of June 15, Marty had trouble breathing and was admitted to the emergency room. He was diagnosed with widespread pneumonia. After a difficult surgery to remove fluid in his lung, he suffered four strokes. Each stroke weakened him until he passed into the spiritual world. Many people remember him as a friendly person with a good smile.

He is survived by his wife and a son, Martin Soo, and a daughter, Bora Almeta.
