Marlene (Dudik) Trenbeath ascended to the Spiritual World two years after receiving the diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Marlene was born on November 21, 1942, and the only child of Stephen and Rose Dudik. She ascended to the Spiritual World on April 25, 2017.
Marlene graduated from McKeesport High School in 1960 and trained as a nurse under the nuns’ supervision at Braddock General Hospital in Braddock, PA in 1963. After working for approximately one year at McKeesport Hospital as a registered nurse, she joined the Peace Corps in 1964 and served two years on the Altiplano in Bolivia.
Marlene joined the Unification Church in March of 1968. More than once she spoke of the time when True Father came and spoke of his plans for America. True Father sat on the floor with a handful of members in a circle and Marlene said she knew “This was the start of something big.”
Marlene participated in witnessing and selling tickets for the first seven-city Day of Hope Tour in the United States. She set up the infirmary at Barrytown, NY and gave Reverend David S.C. Kim his allergy shots. Reverend Kim referred to Marlene as the “heavenly nurse.”
Marlene also participated and witnessed for the Yankee Stadium rally and the Washington Monument Rally in 1976. In addition, she served in the Freedom Leadership Foundation (FLF).
Marlene was a loving mother and mother bear to her five children, and even her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; children: Erica (Tomitaka) Sodeyama, Grand Forks, ND; Andrea (Aliso) Lowen, Tacoma, WA; Michael Trenbeath, Grand Forks, ND; Jean Trenbeath (Jonathan Fu), San Mateo, CA; Brian Trenbeath, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Umiko and Jago Sodeyama; David and Zachary Lowen.
The Seonghwa Ceremony will be held at the Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, ND on Saturday, April 29 at 2:00 PM. The Ghi Hwan Ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM and the Won Jeon Ceremony will take place immediately after the 2:00 PM Seonghwa. Refreshments will be served afterward.
Donations are welcome in the name of Larry Trenbeath in lieu of flowers for the purpose of medical and Seonghwa expenses.

My sincere condolences to Marlene’s family and friends. She was a beautiful, sensitive soul. Marlene and I briefly shared a small garret in the Varnum St. house in Washington, DC, in the 1970s, when Young Oon Kim lived there. May God bless and comfort you all during this difficult time.

We send our prayers, love and condolences to the Trenbeath family. It was Marlene who introduced Hugh to the Divine Principle, our True Parents and our church in September 1968. We have many fond memories of working and living together with Marlene, Dr. Young Oon Kim and others in the center in Washington, D.C. I have no personal recollection of Marlene, unfortunately, but from what I can see here Marlene lived as a pioneering spirit of the highest character for which she has earned the highest realm with True Parents. May our Heavenly Parent always embrace and hold Marlene eternally in loving arms.

I was saddened to hear of Marlene’s passing, and memories of those early years in Upshur House were brought to mind. Although I can’t remember many personal ancedotes, that was a rich time we shared with an intensity to gain members, living together as brothers and sisters, witnessing, worshipping, singing and praying and eating together. Marlene was one of the many sisters who were responsible for making the Holy Robes for the thirteen couples who received the Blessing in 1969.
Our love and prayers are with you Marlene as you transition to your new life, and with you, Larry and your precious family during this challenging time.

I came from Los Angeles to participate in the Day of Hope tour and briefly lived at Upshur House where I knew Marlene and other early members. Along with perfectly coiffed hair (I don’t think I ever saw a hair out of place), meticulous makeup and jewelry, I was impressed with how sure Marlene was of herself. I’ve forgotten much over the years, but on one momentous occasion that I will ALWAYS remember was while the DOH bus was parked outside in front of Upshur House and we members inside were patiently waiting to leave. To our surprise, True Father suddenly boarded the bus and proceeded to walk up the aisle checking out everything. As he walked down the aisle towards the entrance, Marlene suddenly leapt from her seat and unabashedly planted a kiss on True Father’s cheek. I was horrified! In my naivete I expected a reprimand of some sort. Instead, with that enigmatic smile of his, Father simply continued walking down the aisle and exited the bus. Years later and in my old age, I’m now envious!

It is wonderful to read all these stories about Marlene. I met Marlene and Larry during the International Leadership Training at Belvedere in 1974. I do remember her as warm and sensitive, I also remember her imitating my accent with some humor and warmth. I had no idea she transitioned but am sure she is working with our True Parents wherever she is. Many blessings to you Larry and your family as you continue the legacy of our True Parents.
