Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Our beloved sister, Marie Hudson, ascended to the spiritual world on Saturday, September 4 in a hospital near her home in Louisville, KY. She is a champion of faith, deeply devoted to True Parents and the teaching of the Divine Principle, and a loving wife and mother.

Let us continue to offer our prayers and support to Marie and the Hudson family during this important time.

Following is a brief biography of Marie's life from her husband, Lloyd and information about her Seonghwa Service.

Sincerely,

The Chicago Family Church Ministry Team
family and friends

Elsie Marie Hudson was born on the south side of Chicago into a family of four older sisters and six older brothers. Her mother, Reesey, was Marie’s daughter’s namesake. Joe Alderson was her hard-working father.

Marie grew up with aspirations of being a teacher, but her accomplishments in life far exceeded anything that she could have ever imagined!

After learning the Divine Principle in 1972 in Chicago, Marie was reborn. She became a Christian and understood many well-kept secrets of the Bible. She devoted her entire life to revealing those secrets to the world as a teacher and minister of the Unification Church.

During her many years of service, Marie worked for a long time at the World Mission Center attending True Parents and True Children. She cooked for thousands of members during church Holy Days. She later was Regional Secretary for a host of Regional Leaders, including Dr. Ki Hoon Kim.

Marie was one of the first members to teach Divine Principle in Christian churches from the pulpit through the guidance of Rev. Jong Bok Hong. She provided great spiritual support during that time in Chicago to Rev. Purnell Spicer. She also served as a missionary to Hungary.

As Illinois Chairwoman of the Women’s Federation for World Peace, Marie was electric. As a lecturer, she was passionate. In the words of her husband, Lloyd, her greatest challenge was loving her hard-to-love husband and her greatest joy was their lovable daughter, Reice.

Marie’s greatest regret is that she didn’t live long enough to see her daughter walk down the aisle as a bride. Her final days on earth were spent trying to make inroads into developing a closer relationship with her husband’s side of the family. She will now have to continue her efforts from the world of spirit.

Marie was and is a source of joy and enthusiasm for God and True Parents. I valued her warm and hospitality when ever I went to Chicago. She really was a core of the victory of the Blessing to the churches of America. She will be a powerful and loving Apostle in Heaven.

Never met this person but she strongly reminds of one of the first supportive hc people in malta,Maria who although gentle in nature she would face a whole street of negative people and ask if someone had any reason for persecuting the then youngsters door to door selling ‘Revival’ & ‘New Tomorrow’ church magazines. She touched our heart as even though she had a family to provide for one never left her house without smething she’d wrap in a newspaper and give you. This person sufferred much but kept the same generous heart although there are always some righteous people who judged her. With 5children and a redundant husband her afternoon rest was hppily placing a wooden frame on a table in which she put cement & gravel stones she polished when dry to make tiles for her rough cement house floor. ‘Oh how my heart is pained !’ she ocassionally said with a bright red face one can’t erase a beaming smile off. We’d often tell her ‘you express pain with such a radiant smile so what would your expression be like if you expressed happiness?!’.Even though a H.C.member she had such an astounding attitude she put most members to shame as inspite of unimaginable troubles from her 14th.year up to today where Maria Attard Mamo ,a granny and mum of a son with important town hall responsabilities is still an active person as if persecution spurs her on !.This person doesn’t hesitate to speak out righteousness even if she knows she’d get somehow clobbered:she takes it as mormal & Christlike. This precious testimony to our spiritual daughter Maria is in honour to the above Marie never met except maybe sometime in furture spiritually!

My husband and I met the Hudsons at Jardim in the first workshop, in August 1998. We had just been Blessed in June and barely knew each other, and Marie was a big emotional support. They had been planning to go to Cheonpyeong but switched to Jardim, and I always felt God knew we needed their help and sent them to us. I never forgot her warmth during a difficult time.

Marie was a powerful and courageous sister with strong conviction. At the same time she was fun loving — capable of belting out a gospel chorus and dancing the jitterbug. A woman who would slay dragons for those she loved!
She used these attributes to serve True Parents in many, many different capacities.
The last years were marked by illness and yet she was devoted to her only child, Reice and her husband, Lloyd.
Now, I pray Marie can go forward with confidence, trusting that Heavenly Parents will watch over her beloved family, Lloyd and Reice, in her absence.
Marie, you added color and flavor to our lives but mostly love. We will always remember you.
    God Bless You.

    Oh, Marie!
I remember you from New York area fund-raising in the mid-late 1970’s. Very lovely to hear of all your activities since then. You have touched the hearts of so many and your challenge is our challenge. It is wonderful to hear of you and your family. Best wishes for a smooth passage to forever!
