Kimiko Freund was born on January 6, 1946 in Manchuria, China. Along with her four siblings, she was raised by Iwao and Masumi Ogawa in Fukuoka, Japan. Throughout middle school and high school, Kimiko was always seen with a smile on her face as she always exuded such strong and radiant energy. After high school, she worked for a life insurance company but also had the desire to travel the world. Despite her accomplishments and goals, she always found herself dissatisfied as she yearned for a deeper understanding of God and her true purpose in life.

Coincidentally, around early April of 1965, she was invited to her first Unification Church seminar. With an open mind and heart, she attended the workshop and instantly felt connected. From then on, she quit her job and devoted herself to a life for God and True Parents in May at the age of 19. After a few months, she was then assigned to work for Mr. Kuboki as his receptionist at the Tokyo Headquarters. Mr. Kuboki, as well as many other members, expressed constant praise for her high energy and beautiful smile.

Around 1971, Kimiko made her way to the United States with other Japanese missionaries to spread God’s word. After years of commitment to God and True Parents, she felt she was finally ready to share this love with somebody who too wanted to spread God’s providence by establishing one family centered on God. In 1979, Kimiko was matched with Peter Freund, followed by their Marriage Blessing in July 1982 with the 2,075 couples at Madison Square Garden. Together, they moved to Puerto Rico to manage the Ilhwa Ginseng Company and introduced Ginseng Up. After seventeen years of hard work and devotion to Ilhwa and the Puerto Rican community, Kimiko and her husband moved to Florida and then resided in New Jersey.

After years of trying to conceive, Kimiko received her daughter, Mikiko, on September 16, 1996. From that moment on, Kimiko devoted her life as a true homemaker, mother, and wife for the family she cared about so deeply. In November 2017, Kimiko was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. She fought hard with her persevering tenacity throughout different treatments, unfortunately, however, the cancer spread to her pancreas and lungs. On April 3, 2018 at approximately 3:00 AM, Kimiko passed away with her husband and daughter by her side. Kimiko is survived by her husband, Peter, her daughter, Mikiko, her sisters, Yoko and Kazuko, and her brother Yuji.

Kimiko will always be remembered for her deep love for God and True Parents. She was truly devoted to spreading God’s word and love, as she truly felt as though she was a soldier of God. She had the ability to uplift an entire room simply with her famous laughter and sense of humor. She was always recognized as an older sister figure whom many respected. Kimiko was passionate for the beauties of the world, such as nature, birds, and flowers. She will be remembered as a powerful and impactful wife, mother, and friend. Kimiko’s warm embrace and contagious smile will certainly be missed and eternally etched into our memories.

      Dear Peter and family,
Not having knowing Kimiko personally I was deeply touched by the presentation about her life.
What a beautiful flower in God’s beautiful garden. How rich we are, that we are a family for eternity.
Even it is a ceremony of passing into the next world this testimony is uplifting for us remaining her.
      Thank You

Mrs. Kimiko Freund is a Heavenly Parents daughter whose spirit and energy could be felt in any room she was in – and though she was a senior to most of us, it was difficult to estimate her age because her bright and powerful smile was her facial spiritual uplift.

You’ve done well and Heavenly Parent is rejoicing at the sight of your earthly life.

    Dear Peter,
Love, hugs and positive thoughts about Kimiko to send her off at this time to be with Heavenly Father. I never forgot how many times your family helped me in Puerto Rico. You were very patient with my bad driving! Take care.

    Dear Peter,
We worked together many years ago, and I haven’t seen you in most of that time. I’m saddened by your loss of a lovely spouse and mother to your daughter. She sounds like a beautiful soul, and I am sure she is with your family, and merely released from pain and a heavy and failing physical vessel. Blessings always, Kate
