Donald Gordon was born on December 3, 1929, in Buffalo, New York. He was the oldest son of Charles and Thelma Gordon. In 1950, Don married Dolores Hedrich Gordon and their first son, Gregory was born in 1951, followed by Bruce in 1954, and Debra in 1955.
In 1964 he moved his family to Connecticut when he began working for General Dynamics at Electric Boat in Groton. He spent the next 32 years working at the shipyard helping to build nuclear submarines where he was a highly skilled welder and made many life long friends.
In 1975 Don was introduced to the Divine Principle by his daughter, Debbie. He attended 3, 7, and 21-day workshops in Barrytown, NY at the facility which later became the Unification Theological Seminary. He joined the Church at a time when it was rare for parents to be able to accept True Parents. The whole family attended the original Washington Monument Rally together in 1976. On August 25, 1995, Don and his wife Dolores along with his son Greg and his wife Michiy Kobayashi, and his daughter Debra and her husband John Sand were blessed in the 360,000 couples blessing.
Don was active in his local community as part of the Oakdale Volunteer Fire Department for many years as well as a long time member of the Quaker Hill Rod and Gun Club. He was involved with the Friends of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony where he was Chairman for 15 years of the Citrus Sale Fund Raiser. For the last 25 years, he also regularly donated platelets at the Red Cross in Farmington, CT.

I never knew Donald, but I joined in 1975 and I know how hard it was for our parents to accept True Parents. In my eyes Don’s a saint and a hero.

We knew Don and Dolly Gordon since our New Haven days, when Paul was state leader in CT. They were full of humor, supported us with kindness, and they stayed in contact with us over the years. I will miss your funny e-mails, Don! May you have a smooth transition into the next life!

Debbie, what a blessing to share the same Blessing day with your parents and your brother. What a memorable and victorious day that was. I never knew this special man, brother, husband and father, but I know his wonderful daughter Debbie and her husband John. I know they have made him very proud. A moving story for the ages! My deep sympathy and awe to all of the Gordon’s who started breaking those shackles while in the flesh.
How many give their lives on the battlefields of this earth and nobody would argue their valor, their sacrifice. Yet how many know of what it took for Donald and Dolores to give their lives to our Heavenly Parent?
I just got to know a brother whose courage is an inspiration for any and all in the light. A brother whose daughter brought the ‘chicken-and-egg’ dilemma to a brand-new level …
Donald, thank you for the path you leave behind. Please keep building it over there!

Dear Don, the news of your passing came as a real shock, and also brought back a flood of memories of the times we spent together, particularly in Connecticut. Those of us who knew you will always remember your kindness, your joviality, and your sincere love for God and for others around you. You and Dolly are an example of a genuinely loving couple and beautiful parents, and Kim and I are grateful to have spent some time with you and your children.
You caught the deep insights of the Divine Principle and of what True Parents envisioned for the world, and you courageously defended True Parents and our movement in the face of accusations and negativity at a time when it was not easy to do so. I am so grateful that you and Dolly opened your home and your hearts to us.
Thank you for calling me “your dancing partner” after we danced and sang in the rain at the Yankee Stadium event. When Kim and I were blessed at Madison Square Garden in 1982, you and Dolly attended and showed your support – thank you for that. And thank you for staying in email communication after we moved to the Washington, DC, area.
You and your whole family are very special people and remain dear to our hearts. We will miss you, until we see you again on the other side! In the meantime, enjoy the loving embrace of our Heavenly Parent and True Parents, and continue to bring joy to them and those around you! God bless you and your family!
