family and friends

Armi Sirkkala-Barnes was born August 1954 in Lapland, Finland as the ninth child of a lively family of 12 children.

She was a very sensitive child and had many intensive experiences. She left Lapland after finishing schooling in economics and looked for work in Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

She was interested in spirituality and got to know a Finnish Unificationist named Gülen Bedredti, one of the first Unificationists in Finland, at her workplace at a bank. She asked many questions, until Gülen told her she was a member of the Unification Movement. Armi was at once interested in joining the movement went to a church center. After two months of lectures, in 1974, she joined the movement. Her younger sister, Seija Sirkkala-Eck from Karlsruhe, Germany, joined one year later. Together they started a church center with Kaarina Jäger in Lahti, the fourth center in Finland. Armi worked as a pioneer in other cities as well from 1976 to 1977, including Turku, Jyväskylä, and Helsinki. She did fundraising in Finland selling handmade cards, and in 978 went to London to join the Home Church providence with the Finnish members in Newcastle.

In 1978, Roy Barnes of Wales and Armi were matched for engagement in London and received the Marriage Blessing at Madison Square Garden on July 1, 1982. Roy and Armi stayed in America and were active in many areas, including fundraising and missionary work. They then went to California, where they got a green card and resided permanently in America. They have a son, Erick, and had a daughter who ascended two weeks after birth. In the later years of her life, Armi became seriously ill in her kidneys and heart, but still took care of her husband, who was also sick at home for two years. Caring for both herself and her husband, she could feel her energy diminishing by autumn of 2017.

Armi stayed connected with her family in Finland through Facebook, as she could not go home to Finland due to health and financial reasons.

Armi ascended to the spirit world on January 23, 2018, due to health problems.

i first was introduced or met her when i went to my 1st church workshop deciding if i was to become a member or not in october of 1982 at camp deerwood in springfield massachusetts. i met her as she worked in the workshop kitchen and was very kind and had a radiant smile. i remember her telling me one time after thanking her more than once for something she done for me that made me happy. “i was a new member at the workshop 2 day workshop and 7 day workshop, i thanked her more than once in a bit of an attached way. she said to me your welcome. don’t thank people to much after you initial thanked them and they acknowledged it. they will begin to believe your thank you was not sincere. one time and sincerely. i never forgot that even to this day and it still makes since. i just found out about you after sharing this testimony or story with many people in my life. i wish you eternal happiness and joy in heaven with God and True parents and your husband and family. maybe someday i will see you again. God bless you older sister.
