Kevin Scott Winter was born on April 10th 1954 in Muskegon, Michigan, son of Robert Jay Winter and Vernetta Alfredson Winter, the third of four children, an elder brother Jay elder sister Robin and younger sister Wendy. He was an avid boy scout and always kept his boy scout manual on his bookshelf.
On December 10, 1969 at the age of 15, Kevin met the Unification Family in Maryland near Washington D.C. When the Unification Church created the One World Crusade in America in the 1970s, Kevin enthusiastically joined the team and traveled the USA for several years together with other young people. In 1975 called for volunteers to become missionaries in Africa. This was his dream.
On May 15, 1975, Kevin arrived in Ndjamena, Tchad. Because of the dangers, the World Mission Department advised him to leave Tchad for the Ivory Coast. He worked hard to learn French and the local customs and traditions as well as fighting off malaria and other tropical diseases In July, 1982 Kevin was blessed in marriage to Evelyne Calabretto from France. They had three wonderful boys, Thomas, Stephan and Fortune, during their mission in the Ivory Coast, one of the strongest missions in Africa.
In 1991, the Winter family was assigned to Nigeria, where he worked to develop the HIV/AIDS Prevention Program of the Universal Peace Federation. 20 years later in 2011, he brought many VIPs including several Heads of State of African nations to personally meet with Rev. Moon.
After being diagnosed with brain cancer in July, 2014, he prayed that God’s will could be done. If our Heavenly Parent so desired, he was ready to live or to die. Just before his passing, Kevin said that before leaving for the Spiritual World, he hoped to sing four special songs to our True Mother to comfort her. He will most certainly have that chance one day in Heaven.
